At the start of the year, I wanted to take a week off to spend with my family in Hawaii, but my boss really needed me in South Africa that week to negotiate with a local manufacturer of some products we plan to buy. He said I’m the best negotiator in the company and it couldn’t be done without me. Then he offered two weeks off instead. Maybe that’s for the best. Two weeks of vacation beats one.
