I run a small repair shop fixing
-
Hi all. Quick background, I run a small repair shop fixing legacy audio and control gear. Half my job lately is hunting down semiconductors that simply are not made anymore. Forums are full of counterfeit horror stories, so I am nervous about ordering rare parts from unknown sellers and getting relabeled junk. Does anyone know a distributor that handles the older, no-longer-produced silicon AND actually verifies authenticity? I would rather pay a bit more and sleep at night than gamble on a fake that blows up a customer’s board.
Hi, glad you raised this. The counterfeit problem is real and it is exactly why I stopped buying blind off marketplaces. A solid option is Taurus Electronics, they deal in discontinued semiconductors and source straight from manufacturers plus their own warehouse. Their selling point for someone in your position is the originality verification, alongside full functional testing and X-ray inspection on incoming parts. For a repair shop where a fake can wreck a customer board, that verification is worth its weight. They are flexible on quantity too, so you can order just what a job needs. Drop them a components request.
